After our birth we usually pass away these three stages child, adult, and parenting; for ego-state analysis, we have to give equal priorities to all three. 1. Parent EGO
The parent ego-state contains assess and judgment. It structures the environment and helps other people. If you get back to your childhood, you will see how did your parents think, feel and behave with you? Now, how do you behave with your kids? Do you find some similarities?
1.1. We see two types of Parent-States
1.Critical Parent: This ego-state tries to make the child do as the parent wants them. This is a kind of introjecting value or believes to the child and forcefully helps a child to sustain in society. They may also have negative intent, using a child as a scapegoat.
2. Nurturing Parent: This parenting type is very caring and concerned about the child to grow in a safe haven condition. Often they seek to keep child contented. Sometimes, their unconditional love to calm the child’s difficulties.
2. Adult EGO
Adult ego-state is a balanced state of humans. It comprises decision-making, logical control and neutralizing situation that appropriate in the present situation. It is likely a direct response that streaming the best options. It deals with here and now a reality. This is only an ego-state that is not connected to the past. It stands on present and current things. It is in being spontaneous and aware of the power of intimacy.
An Example: Sometimes the parent may criticize the child, saying you are not good, look- what did you do?..all are useless! The child may answer all in different ways. Anyhow, this example not perfect for adult-ego rather the adult stops any negative dialogue and finds another way for better and helpfull parenting.
3. Child EGO
Perhaps your boss calls you to his/her office-hearing the information you may get immediate reactions into your stomach and then you start shaking. You feel nervous, what might be wrong! -yes? If you were explored, you might remember the same situation had happened while you were a junior school student-once your headmaster had asked you to meet. Can-you-remember?
Do you believe it? ..or not! Childish thinking, feeling, and behavior are always living inside our brain, sometimes, the expression has been like a child, but we stand on the stage of adult.
1. Natural Child-ego
This ego-state used to beyond the control of speech, creating noise (yahoo and else). They like playing and very open to play, speak and thus vulnerable.
2. Little Professor
This ego-state contains many queries that sometimes make their parent annoyance. They always try out new stuff which associates with natural children and thus they want to move according to their choice.
3. Adaptive child
They always react to the world if something against their feelings. Sometimes they compromise with the situation and sometimes they protest the action they feel.
You will have the phenomenon of loss of inquiry. You can begin asking thyself who are you? What stage is in maturity? Do you have a good relationship with your surroundings? How do you express your wording? Are you stand on trauma? Do you say sorry sometimes if there any mistakes? Focusing numbers of questions through brainstorming, you can be able to make you think, feel and behavior fit for the present.
